About Me

My name is Ellen. I am turning 27 in December although I act like I am 7 most of the time. I am a cook by day, not-so-starving artist by night... although I am broke most of the time. I am planning to pursue a career in Culinary Arts or Media Arts when money isn't as tight.

My attempts in making *art* started back in 2005 although I've always loved drawing as a kid. I have never taken any real art classes although I have helped the high school art teacher paint a few murals for my school. Only recently did I decide to make creating art a serious hobby, alongside scrapbooking and playing World of Warcraft.

I enjoy using oil pastels the most, although I also like watercolor and acrylic. I have recently acquired some soft pastels from a friend. I have a wide array of colored pencils but I just can't find a reason to use them... yet. I have yet to enjoy using oil paints (waiting for weeks for paint to dry just tests my patience waaay too much, and patience is NOT my best virtue) and I am testing my luck on encaustic painting soon.
I usually draw on my sketchbook (3 different sizes: 9x12, 11x14 and a 6.5x9 that I carry around) but I paint on acrylic/watercolor paper. Canvases are so expensive nowadays (even when it's on sale!) so I only have a few pieces on canvas.

I don't have a preference when it comes to subjects or themes (I haven't made that much artwork just yet!). Pretty much I'm going with "it talks to me" or "it wants me to paint it" approach when it comes to choosing what I am going to draw next. I have not sold any paintings so far although I have painted for friends and family

I also like Origami. Nothing calms me more than a stack of washi paper, maybe a couple of pieces of string and a tall glass of Iced Green Tea. I also enjoy recycling materials and creating something out of them. So far I have made a jewelry case and Inspiration Boards out of cardboards and scrap-scrapbook paper; made my artbox organizer out of  cut-up toilet paper rolls and cardboard scraps.
